Resolving Wire Surface Heating

Typical Issues surface heating with wires

Issues with Wire Heating have been known in certain applications today. Yet, Wire Heating is widely used in commercial, industrial, and military applications also. It provides durability and stability in high-temperature as we understood. However, there are issues in applying the wires to maintain a constant and optimal temperature for a large area securing from the extreme cold temperatures.

A typical example of surface heating by wire

Today, ships can go through the Arctic due to global warming resulting in new routes recently developed. Now the issues are when ships are going through Arctic shipping routes, there are unexpected issues from the extremely cold temperatures. Here are some recent problems when ships are going through an Arctic route for a large ship:

  • Air ventilator may stop working and causing unexpected issues to the people and other equipment
  • The iced surface of a pathway endangers or even blocks people to walkthrough
  • Iced doors causing lock condition
  • Stairs to access different floors

To avoid these issues, most of the ships have adapted using nichrome wires underneath the surface to supply electrical current to maintain a desirable temperature. However, when the coverage is large, it becomes not only expensive but also heat dissipation is greater than covering a smaller area.  Also, covering large areas by Nichrome wire generates a higher possibility of having a fire.  Moreover, it is heavy and takes up a large space to install and use it.

Resolving Wire Surface Heating

This is one of the critical applications to keep the door working against freezing temperatures. Using surface heating to avoid door blocking by freezing temperature, this particular case requires the material to be flexible, durable, and energy-efficient ensuring the contact points get proper temperature.

This example applies not only to the ships but also important installations in a site for meaningless traffics of automobiles, people, and other important objects. However, the key questions are to manage the cost, energy efficiency, flexibility, durability, and furthermore heat management.

Resolving Wire Surface Heating by Solid HeatFlex ™

To correct the above issues caused by the wire, the application requires an alternate solution with lighter, energy-efficient, flexible, and durable.

Solid HeatFlex™ resolves most of the issues caused by the Nichrome wires since Solid HeatFlex™ is light, energy-efficient, and also robust while providing temperature real-time control at the material level with the heat sensors.

  • Lightweight provides an ideal solution for covering large areas and stairs.
  • More than 20% to 30% energy savings as compared to the Nichrome wires
  • Durable from external pressure and forces
  • Easy to control and maintain an optimal temperature in real-time
